When I created the GranFondo, I dreamt of a route that could imitate the queen stage of a professional road race. This year, that dream comes true with the Amgen Tour of California choosing the King Ridge GranFondo route to serve its penultimate day. You'll ride this route ahead of the pros, with me to celebrate this momentous occasion for me and my community.
When we ride the route we will be followed by a full support vehicle and mechanic. We'll have to stay ahead of the race to make it back in time to see them finish in Santa Rosa, but we'll have enough time to make some brief stops for refueling and any necessary bike adjustments along the way.
Once we're back in Santa Rosa you'll have access to the city's local VIP tent at the finish straight. This is an exclusive experience that only we can provide and is sure to lead to an exciting end a day on one of the most famous routes in North America.
After the excitement of racing concludes in Santa Rosa, you'll join Levi for a very special hand-crafted dinner with celebrated winemaker Jake Bilbro at his private Limerick Lane estate where you can sample wine from some of the oldest known vines in the region--grapes that have been growing at this location since before the Golden Gate Bridge was built.
Day 1: Arrive early on Saturday before the official start of the tour and join us for an easy kickoff pre-ride around Truckee at 10:00am to get your legs "off the plane". Then get settled in for the big day ahead. Your lodging on Saturday night is included in this package.
Day 2: We begin the official first big leg of our journey on Sunday at the inaugural Stetina’s Sierra Prospect Road Rally. Here in Northstar, California we will join Peter Stetina and Laurens Ten Dam for an expansive, gran fondo-esque event. The Sierra Prospect takes in Lake Tahoe, the iconic Nevada desert and a massive HC climb over Mount Rose, California's highest year-round summit.
Day 3: You're in for an easy day on Monday with a beautiful recovery ride around Donner Lake. We will stay again at Northstar and dine with the resort's leadership team.
Day 4: On Tuesday morning we will transfer to Sierraville and tackle the Gold Lakes Highway en route to the historic Nevada City where we will stay overnight.
Day 5: Wednesday we will launch into familiar territory for Levi Leipheimer with a transfer to Lower Lake, CA and a big ride south on some incredible roads as we make our way to Saint Helena, our final destination for the day. Our lodging destination will be the quaint Eurospa in Saint Helena.
Day 6: We make our way to the cycling mecca of Sonoma County on Thursday, and our launchpad for the remainder of the adventure. Thursday night is the 9th annual Festa del Fondo fundraising dinner, included with your registration and an incredible evening of dining and giving in support of King Ridge Foundation for at-risk youth.
Day 7: After three big days under our belt it will be time to rest with an easy flat "VIP" ride which includes the sponsors of Levi’s GranFondo and top fundraisers who have supported King Ridge Foundation's mission to serve at-risk youth. We'll stop by Levi’s GranFondo expo, check-in for the big ride and kick up our feet.
Day 8: The penultimate day is upon us. A total pilgrimage that has been made by more than 50,000 people in its 9 year history, Levi’s GranFondo is America's premier gran fondo. We'll tackle the most amazing roads Sonoma County has to offer with thousands of others from around the world. This is the best day on two wheels. You'll stay with us in Santa Rosa one more night before departing from our journey together on Sunday.
